"I was rather disappointed when I heard Em's new track to be found on Curtain Call. It was too much of a replica of Toy Soldier but with a darker beat. Lyrically, I guess it's solid, but how many other songs has he done for his daughter? This is nothing new, and I definitely don't agree to the hype that it has been getting. I only gave this 2 stars because it is 2 times better than has other piece-of-crap track he released entitled Fack."
"This is really the only song I can stomach on Buck's new T.I.P. album. And in all honesty, it's not even that good. He comes hard on his verses, but the chorus is a headache and a half. The result isn't really worth hearing. I only included this song because I promised myself that I'd at least post one of the best songs from the album. It's scary, but even Tony Yayo's latest album was better than Bucks. Ouch. I always thought that Buck was lyrically one of the better members of G-Unit."
"This track comes from BEP's Monkey Business. BEP really shows the group's versatility and uniqueness on this track. I'd describe this more as pop-hop than hip-hop, but it's a smooth track. Like That features Q-Tip, John Legend, and C-Lo as well."
"This track has been getting a good response around the rap world, and for good reason. This song comes with a solid base beat and Juelz gets to whistlin' some solid verses. It has a rhythm similar to Drop It Like Its Hot. This album should turn shoulders when it drops. Juelz actually performed this song on Jay Leno's (or it may have been Letterman, I forget) show a little while back."
"Now I know this isn't exactly rap, but it's found on Big Boi Presents: Got Purp Vol. 2, and it's got a good sound, so fuck it! Sleepy harmonizes about his love of caddy's. It has a feel-good Detroit oldies sound to it."
"Talib slows down the beat on this Right About Now track, and it sounds wonderful. It also gives you a chance to really focus in on his lyrics and you'll realize how smart and quick-witted Talib is. One can compare this to Never Been In Love off his last album, but just more serious."
"Talk about a hook that you can't get out of your head. Rush, rush get the llello! I found this track on a Cam mixtape a little while ago. It may be old, but I figured I'd add in a little throwback to change things up. The beat is techno-y and Cam sounds great on it. I would've probably bumped it up to 4.5 stars if it hadn't been for the first verse that is repeated twice."
"The old Blackstar members get together to fire off a crazy track that is on Talib's Right About Now. For some reason I have a feeling I heard this song before and that it's an old track that they ressurected for the album, but I'm not sure. I'll do some research into that if I get the time. Anyways, quick summary of the song is that the beat is upbeat and the tempo and lyrics are quick and witted. "
"Cham matches up with Krayzie Bone to create this song that is found on his album entitled The Sound Of Revenge. Ridin' is about their dislike for racially-profiling cops. The beat and lyrics both move quickly and match up perfectly. One can expect big things out of Chamillionaire as he gains popularity in all directions pointing away from South."
"This song comes from the album dedicated to Tupac. Krayzie Bone absolutely rips it in the first verse. He comes hard with meaningful lyrics, and the beat fits the song correctly. Wish and Layzie contribute average displays of lyrical power, but it's Krayzie that definitely carries the song. If Bone ever gets back together with Bizzy, watch out."
"Wow. This is a track that is to be featured on Juelz's What The Game's Been Missing. At first the beat sounds a little dirty, but the more you hear it the harder you realize it is. Juelz spits Cam-like fire, and flows beautifully. Don't feel sorry for me // have a party for me // bitches, balloons, bacardi, and weed // and know that I died with the heart of a G. All I can really say. Very close to give it TMPO's first 5 stars, but I just don't know if this song will be considered classic enough to get a max rate."
"The new boys, along with Lil' Wayne, drop a delightful tune. A nice mix between a southern sound, but a better quality rap than the south usually drops. This song had me addicted for awhile, mostly because I love the chorus, and plus I love Weezy. Nothing spectacular, but I've heard worse."
"When I heard Talib released his first single from the new album, I was pumped. I love Kweli just like everyone else. But after hearing this, I flipped. Maybe I'm just not feeling the Talib/MF Doom combo, but this song just does not rank up to 3/4's of The Beautiful Struggle. I really hope he puts forth some better quality stuff."
"Jamie Foxx teams up with Ludacris to create the latest big-name Rap&B combo. The idea and concept is fine, and can be incredibly nice when the two go together like bread and butter, but Foxxacris just doesn't. This song is not as bad as I may be making it sound, and is no doubt going to be popular, but for some reason I just don't personally enjoy it. You'll have to give it a listen yourself before you pass judgement. "
"This track comes from the late Biggie Smalls' upcoming album entitled Duets: The Final Chapter. In a song that involves an all-star cast like Biggie Smalls, Diddy, Nelly, and Jagged Edge, you'd expect the product to be pretty spectacular, but Nasty Girl really doesn't live up to what it should be. The clubs will enjoy it, but that's about it, because it's just too plain."
"One part of me wants Clyph to succeed, but I know for the most part he'll most likely end up disappearing from the face of the earth. This St. Louie boy's voice is a mix between Nelly and Chingy (I don't know if that is a good or bad thing), but his rhymes carry his raps to a higher level; he doesn't have to get by on gimmicks like the other two. Fresh, sorta."
"This track is to be featured on Tha Carter II. While it is a fairly popular song, I still prefer other Wayne tracks like Snitch and Earthquake. The beat is god damned annoying, almost screechy. Weezy is way better over slower, quieter stuff. Usually when I get to this song I just listen for the first minute or so until he drops the line:
I see she wearing them jeans that show her butt crack // My girls can't wear that why that's where my stash at //
"Ice Cube and Dub get together to make this single that has been getting decent airplay. Granted I've heard better, I still have to give the Friday series star his props as his flow in the first verse was very nice. Reminded me of the old You Can Do It days. Hopefully Ice Cube can make a resurgence and make us a few more classic hits."
"Inglewood's finest spits over this hard, west coast beat, and Nate Dogg gives his usual performance. The beat is sorta so strong that it almost takes all the focus off what the hell Mack and Nate are saying (though I doubt if they really have anything special to say). Song is off of Mack 10's recently released CD Hustla's Handbook. Makes for good good mixtape filler."
"Papoose, who is the freshest rapper in the game right now in my opinion, raps over an old James Brown song on his track. His raps tell of his love for the Big Apple, and hearing him with an old musical great is great in itself. Pap is lyrically stronger than anyone right now, and he comes with a Ghostface-like intensity. From his upcoming CD entitled The Nicarema Dream."
"Pharrell teamed up with Gwen Stefani (who sings the hook) to create this solid joint. I wish Stefani wasn't on this at all, but she only speaks like 5 words, so that wasn't much of the problem. Pharrell raps sound just like the ones he did back in the days when he would team up with Tha Clipse to make hot tracks. The highlight of this song however is the beat, which is plain fire (rumours say this was the one that Diddy and Nas had a 2-million-dollar bidding war over)."
"Window Shopper is 50's first single from his controversial movie and soundtrack Get Rich Or Die Tryin'. While I have never been one to be an advocate of Fifty and his G-Unit gang, he spits some of his best fire since his early songs from the last GRODT. The beat is grimey and the enterpreneur Fiddy shows that he can still be gangsta-gangsta with the best of them."
"This joint is a single from Cam's album+movie combo entitled Killa Season. The beat is sing-songy, but it's Cam's unique rhymes that makes this track rather enoyable. Again, Cam manages overcome his below-average voice with witty, on-the-spot lyrics. I can't wait to hear the dirty version of this track. There will be more killin' killin' for killa killa if he keeps this up."
"This is Ghosty's first single off his upcoming album Fishscale, produced by Pete Rock. The beat is upbeat and fresh; but still many of his fans would prefer a darker, Wu-Tang beat. However, Ghostface rhymes with his usual high-level of emotion, especially the first verse. Overall this track is very solid."

1. What is TMPO? Thug Music Plays On is a website/blog that supplies you with a comprehensive list of rap singles that I pick out for a given month. I proceed to individually rate each song out of five. 2. What can I expect to find here? You can expect to find about 30 good songs a month. These songs will all be grouped into a collective post, which means there will be a list of hundreds of songs of your liking. Finally, you will be able to have your say on every song using the comment section under each song listing.3. Why should I read TMPO's content? If you are a rap fan, you will understand where I am coming from when I say that it can be difficult to find good listings of up-to-date songs to try. Some sites offer some good listings, but they are not updated daily. I want a new, good song every single day (yes I am finnicky), and nothing is more frustrating than having to scan through message boards, or randomly download stuff until you find something you like. With TMPO, I am the one who is doing the 'searching' for new good tunes, and you get the benefit of cashing in on some good songs with little effort'4. Where did the name 'Thug Music Plays On' come from? The name Thug Music Plays On is the title of an unreleased song from one of my favourite, and arguably most talented group ever, the Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. If you don't believe me, download the song and see' 5. When did you start the site? I have been forming the idea of such a site for over a year now, but the first version of the site (called Rated Rap at the time) was published in early August 2005. 6. Where do you get songs from? I get song ideas from many different sources including albums that I purchase, message boards, other hip-hop sites, etc. I do my best to portray song that are not only popular with a large audience, but also those other tracks that you might skip over or just never happen to come across. 7. What do you consider a new song? It is very difficult to answer this question due to the fact that sometimes songs do not become popular till months after their release date. As well, songs that come out on a new mixtape may be months old as well. In both instances, I would post them on the site. Also, I might add on some old throwback tracks for shits and giggles. Basically, whatever my ears say is worthy of posting is what I'll put....god damnit! 8. What do you consider a 'rap' song? Again, another tough issue due to the fact that the genre of rap is changing all the time and has lately come to mix in other types of music (especially R&B and Rock has had it's influence as well). 9. Who rates the songs? Me. I take in many accounts from popularity, lyrics, beat, flow; basically all the elements of a good song. I rate each song out of 5 stars. This keeps it simple, and gives you a clear and concise idea at the quality of the song.10. Do you host these songs? Definitely not. Right now, music piracy is a touchy issue right now, and I would prefer to exercise my right of not getting involved. On TMPO I do not endorse the trading of music, nor will I condone it. Everyone has their own way of getting music. TMPO wil not host music, and I will leave it at that. 11. Who can add comments to your rated songs? As of now, anyone can add comments WITHOUT having to register. I know that allowing anonymity can lead to trouble, but I feel that anyone should be allowed to leave their opinion on a song without all the hassle of setting up an account. This may change in due time, though. 12. Should I register? If you plan on coming back and sharing your thoughts with everyone, then you might as well. It's free, and might be implemented later on, so why not? 13. Will you ever give my e-mail address to anyone? Of course not. This site is costing me nothing, so I will not benefit from it at your expense. An e-mail might be necessary for registry, but that will be the only one you'll get as a result of you giving your e-mail addy to me. 14. What can I comment on, and who moderates it? You may comment on anything pertaining to that artist, song, or album of that particular listing. As of now I will be the only one moderating posts, and it is not a job that I wish to have to frequently do. In other words, swearing can be tolerable, as long as it does not get to the point where it is extremely vulgar. I believe in free speech, and I would like to be able to exercise that right for everyone posting. 15. Can I help you moderate? As of now, I am going to do it on my own. However, when time comes, I will be enlisting a few people of my choice (most likely the people who show the most dedication to the site) to help me moderate comments. 16. Can I help you add songs? If you believe that you got a track that deserves to be added, feel free to e-mail it to me (find my e-mail addy on the contact page) and I will give it a listen and pass my own judgement on it. If you do recommend a track to me that I put on the site, I'll make sure to give you props. 17. Will you post my site under your text link section? I'd be glad to. In return, all I ask is that you place a text link of my site on yours. A fair deal that can easily be negotiated through e-mail. Read the contact section for more info. 18. Will you post my site under your button link section? Again, I'd be glad to. In return, all I ask is that you place a button link of my site on yours. Buttons get displayed above text links on my site. However, I will ask that the button be a certain pic size in order for the site to stay visually appealing. Read the contact section for more info. 19. Do you have any nude pictures of... Naw, sorry. 20. What if my question isn't found here? E-mail it to me. 21. I'm always willing to trade links and buttons with anyone's site as long as it has to do with rap, and is remotely completed. So even if your site only has like 5 hits, i'll rep ya.
